Well, you’ve come to the right place and I’m here to help you find your wedding photographer!

As you probably have already found out, wedding planning can be so much fun and overwhelming all at the same time! You probably already gathered that I might be a little biased in my thinking, but wedding photographers aren’t just another wedding vendor. These are images that you’ll carry with you for a lifetime! My grandparents just celebrated their 50th anniversary, and they still show all of their photos from their wedding day.

But I’m here to shed a little light and let you know that it doesn’t have to be overwhelming and exhausting. In a day in age where it can be information overload, I’ve put together a few easy tips together to help you pick the wedding photographer of your dreams!

Now, as a fellow bride myself and being on the other side of wedding planning these are the same things I asked myself when picking a wedding photographer. AND LET ME TELL YOU, this wedding planning has been one heck of an eye-opening experience for me. I’ve taken what I’ve learned from recent brides, and what I’ve learned myself working with wedding vendors on my own wedding.

Are you ready for this? Let’s dive in and help you find your wedding photographer!

1. Style

While all photography aims to capture your big day and emotions there is a wide range of styles to choose. Just like your wedding, you need to know what style of photography you’re going for. When I say that , ask you self “what images speak to me the most? Can I live with that on my wall for 50 years?” There are so many different styles of photography out there, but once you nail down what style of images you like then you start reaching out to your dream photographers.

Some questions to ask yourself to narrow things down and get you started:

Do you lean towards bright and airy images, true to color and vibrant, or dark and moody with shadows?

Are you drawn in by up close right shoots, or wide with landscapes?

Do you enjoy colorful images or mute pastel color palettes ?

When you picture getting your wedding album do you see candid shots, details, or dramatic portraits?

Going through each question with your partner with bring you one step closer to finding your dream wedding photographer.

2. PRICE……

The one thing no one really wants to take about, I know. But if you’re anything like me wanting a stress-free wedding, I’d create a budget you and your partner can live with. Then stick to it, like the “Pirate’s Code”, you know from Pirates of the Caribbean (hahaha)!

I’m not saying that things might not change from the original budget you made, because it’s more than likely going too. What I am saying is that your budget is going to get you a sense of direction when it comes to how much you’re spending on what, which includes wedding photography.

If you aren’t sure where to start with your budget, I’d recommend heading over to THE KNOT (back link), vendors have starting prices on there for you. But some of the biggest questions you should be asking yourself is: How much does wedding photography mean to me?

Some features are extra for example extra hours of coverage or second photographer, so if you plan on having over 75 guest you might want to budget in a second photographer. Be sure to ask about specific offerings (and not just their portfolio work).

3. Personality

So this one is just going to sound crazy but it’s just as important as the first two, because chances are you’re going to be spending a lot of time with your wedding photographer. If you plan on having full day coverage from getting ready to an epic exit, trust me, you’re going to want someone that you genuinely enjoy being around. If you’re still on the fence about someone, ask to meet for coffee (or margaritas, whichever) or do a video chat with them. Start by asking how they deal with large families, or language barriers , when you start asking stuffer questions like that that’s when you start to know if they are right for you and a right fit for your awesome wedding day.

This is just another reason why I LOVE engagement sessions. The reasons why I love engagement sessions is because it gives me a chance to really get to know you guys as a couple. Not only do I get to know you but you need to get to know me as well. It also helps with having a stress-free wedding day because you get to know me, your photographer, and how I operate on your big day.

So in conclusion of finding your dream wedding photographer ….

I believe that it’s your big day and no matter if it’s an elopement, small wedding, or a large wedding it deserves to be told in the best way! Your photographs are one of the most important lasting memories from your big day. While you can save and preserve your dress and flowers, but neither of those things are going to look and feel like they did on that day. Your images preserve all the good feelings, the tears, the laughter, and special moments for years and years to come.

I seriously hope you loved all these little tid-bits as much as I’d loved putting them together for you! Wedding planning can be overwhelming but as your wedding photographer, I hope to make everything easy, fun, and stress-free.
